A Heart Like His | Love Like You

About The Poem

Love Like You (originally titled Break My Heart) explores what it means to love like Jesus. Believers are commanded to love others the way Jesus does. Jesus loves unconditionally, selflessly, and sacrificially. Loving like Jesus could look like mourning with those who mourn or interceding and praying on someone else’s behalf. Love Like You is the desire to reflect the love received through belief in the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s about asking questions such as: “How should I respond to another’s suffering?” “How can I love selflessly?” “How can I reflect what I believe?” “How can I serve and show up for someone else?” “How can I love like You (Jesus)?“

Love Like You

Lord, break my heart
for what breaks yours.
Teach me how to love like You.

I could mourn with those
who mourn.
I could intercede
until my knees turn blue.

Place it on my heart —
What needs my attention?
How can I serve?
How can I love like you?

Stitch my heart with
holy empathy.
Weave in your compassion
for the fatherless.

Anoint my tongue
with words of tenderness.
Teach me how to love like you.
